Serving up hope

Caritas Community Kitchen in Austin, Texas played host to a team of volunteers from JLL last week.

Thirty volunteers, comprised of members from JLL Austin’s full platform of service lines, served meals to 900 people over three days.

Led by Jeff Coddington, Executive Vice President, JLL Capital Markets and Belinda Hannah, Brokerage Assistant, Tenant Representation, the group was eager for a chance to help out.

“Finding a way for our Austin JLL community to give back to the larger community is a win for our team, a win for our culture as a company and obviously a win for the community,” said Coddington. “By coming together, we as individuals and as JLL Austin can benefit immensely.”

Caritas Community Kitchen is an Austin-based non-profit organization whose mission is to “prevent and end homelessness for people in Greater Austin.”

“Thanks to [JLL], our diners had a warm meal and a welcoming place to enjoy lunch,” said Melissa Ortiz, Community Development Coordinator, Caritas of Austin. “Caritas of Austin could not serve so many families and individuals each year on their path to well-being without community members like [those at JLL].”

The volunteers are part of a recently established JLL community involvement group who seek out opportunities to help improve the Austin community. The group is partnering with three local causes over the next two years and will survey the team for new ideas and recommendations afterward.

“It’s easy for us to get involved in our own daily lives and business commitments, but forget we are the part of a larger community — both at work and where we live,” said Hannah.
